Suarez: I hope Messi will stay in Barcelona

Uruguayan star Luis Suarez, who was recently crowned champion of the Spanish League with Atletico Madrid, has confirmed that he wants his friend, Argentine star Lionel Messi, to continue with Barcelona, and his former colleague's contract expires in five days and has not extended his contract with the Catalan club.

Suarez said in statements published by the French newspaper "L'Equipe": "As a friend and fan of football, and as a relative, I will be happy. I will be happy if he stays in Barca, and this is what I advise him to do."

"For what he gave the club, he must continue," added Suarez, who was sent off from Barcelona last summer but is still a great friend of the Argentine star.

According to the Spanish press, the Argentine striker, who will turn 34 in June, is more inclined to extend, but Suarez, who had eaten with Messi in Madrid a week before the interview, confirmed that he was not informed of his decision.

The Uruguayan striker also confirmed that he will remain a player at Atlético next season and will not leave the team.

Lionel Messi won the title of top scorer in the Spanish league for him with 30 goals, to be crowned with the "Pichichi" award, which is awarded to the competition's goals, for the fifth time in a row and the eighth in his career,
