Bahrain’s Shura Council will discuss tomorrow a law that guarantees the sustainable availability of strategic goods



The Shura Council in Bahrain will discuss, in its thirteenth session, tomorrow, Sunday, a proposal for a law to amend some provisions of Law No. (35) of 2012 regarding consumer protection, submitted by members.


According to the Bahraini Al-Ayyam newspaper, the Public Utilities and Environment Committee in the Shura Council stated, in a report prepared on the proposal for the aforementioned law, that the proposal aims to follow-up and ensure the availability of strategic goods that meet the needs of citizens and residents in the Kingdom in a sustainable manner, which contributes to the stability of the local market, commodity prices and the prevention of monopolistic practices. As well as achieving consumer security and protecting the national economy as long as strategic commodities, especially essential ones, are available in sufficient and safe quantities, which requires strategic planning and control over these commodities and the provision of safe stocks of them.


In its report, the committee recommended the permissibility of considering the proposal for the aforementioned law, stressing that it will contribute to achieving the goals of sustainable development, as well as speeding up the pace towards achieving strategic security of commodities through practical measures to ensure stability and continuity.


The Council is discussing another report prepared by the Public Utilities and Environment Committee regarding two draft laws amending some provisions of the Municipalities Law promulgated by Decree Law No. (35) of 2001 AD, where the committee recommended approval of them in accordance with the amendments made to the two projects.


The first draft law aims at activating the role of municipal councils and transforming each municipal council into a local administration within the limits of its municipality according to its jurisdiction, delivering the best services and developing the infrastructure for each governorate in accordance with the general policy of the Kingdom in coordination with the ministries and competent bodies, and preserving the independence of the municipal councils. While the second draft law aims to fill the legal gap in the monitoring mechanism that the Minister of Municipal Affairs exercises over the decisions and recommendations of municipal councils, which would extend the monitoring procedures.


The Council is also considering a draft law amending some provisions of the Law Regulating Retirement Pensions and Benefits for Officers and Personnel of the Bahrain Defense Force and Public Security, and a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. (13) for the year 1975 AD regarding the organization of pensions and gratuities for government employees, in light of two reports prepared by the Services Committee on the two projects Mentioned.


The Shura Council is discussing another report prepared by the Services Committee regarding a draft law amending some provisions of the Insurance Law.
